Advertiser Staff

Kaua'i officials have identified a visitor who died Wednesday after being rescued from the ocean at Lawa'i Beach Resort as James Dunkelberger, 73, of York, Penn.

An autopsy will be performed to determine cause and manner of death.

According to police, York was snorkeling at about 9:30 a.m. when a surfer saw him in distress and brought him to shore. York then collapsed. A bystander performed CPR until firefighters from the Koloa station arrived.

He was pronounced dead at Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
