Pennsylvania man dies after snorkeling distress

A 73-year-old man from York, Penn., died yesterday after being rescued from the ocean at Lawa'i Beach Resort on Kaua'i.

The man was pronounced dead at Wilcox Hospital.

Police said the man was snorkeling about 9:30 a.m. when a surfer saw him in distress and brought him to shore. The victim collapsed. A bystander performed CPR until firefighters from the Koloa station arrived.

Police classified the case as an unattended death pending autopsy findings.
