Mistrial declared in freeway assault case in which woman lost arm

Advertiser Staff

A mistrial has been declared in a case of assault, a crime that allegedly led to a freeway crash and a woman losing her left arm.

Jurors in the trial of Iovani Alatini declared that they could not reach a verdict after a day and a half of deliberations.

Iovani was on trial for allegedly kicking the steering wheel of a car being driven by his wife during a domestic argument.

Lise Solomua-Alatini lost most of her left arm after the car flipped over several times on the H-1 Freeway near the airport.

Solomua-Alatini testified during the trial that the accident was her fault, not her husband's.

Deputy Prosecutor Jeen Kwak said her office intends to re-try the case.

Defense attorney Marcus Landsberg said the case is a tragic one that did not involve domestic violence.
