Admit it. We all have a fascination with the bizarre. It's why omnivores like Anthony Bourdain and Andrew Zimmern have such large followings. Visit Metromix (http://honolulu.metromix.com) to see delicacies available here in Hawai'i that will satisfy your taste for culinary curiosities ... and maybe even land you a winning gig on "Fear Factor."

Pictured here is the shiokara served at Makino Chaya at Aloha Tower Marketplace. Although it's popular in Japan, local Japanese people regard shiokara as an acquired taste. Salted, fermented squid guts often come in a bottle and are usually pink. Because of their saltiness, they're probably best eaten with hot rice and a glass of sake or beer. If you go to Don Quijote, you can find shiokara in a variety of other ocean creatures, including octopus, scallop and bonito.
