Although Indige in Kaimuki began its life as predominantly an interior accents store, it has become a popular fashion destination for men and women seeking unusual clothing and accessories with an Asian vibe. Owner Ron Irwin designs with the Island woman in mind and has his line manufactured in Southeast Asia.

It includes hand-painted cottons with the effect of abstract art, black-and-white layered gauze tunics and dresses and unisex hapi coats in bold prints. For fall, Indige's palette is steel gray, celadon, olive, black and beige.

Irwin is hosting "Kaimuki Treasures," from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 10, an evening of art by Big Island painter Lino Laure, as well as exotic decor and one-of-a-kind accessories. After the event, Irwin suggests, make it an evening by dining at one of Kaimuki's many fab restaurants: 12th Avenue Grill, JJ's, Town or Wild Ginger, to name a few.

ART OF JEWELRY

Artist Kensei Takeda is known for his artful antique repurposed jewelry. His styles are ethnic and classic yet contemporary. He will be showing his latest designs at a sold-out fashion show from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday in the ballroom of the Halekulani Hotel. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the American Heart Association. CHANEL MAKEUP ARTIST JOHN FUSSELL HERE

It's time for a fresh new holiday look, and Chanel national makeup artist and artistry trainer John Fussell will be in Honolulu to interpret the look on Island women's faces. Chanel has created three looks for the party season: the Subtle Look, the Signature Look and the Sensational Look. Fussell will adapt one for each woman. FIRST FASHION FRIDAY FINALE

Today marks the finale of the 2008 First Fashion Friday events with a focus on "Personal Style" in the Center Atrium at Aloha Tower Marketplace from 3 to 6 p.m.

The highlight of the evening will be the opening reception from 7 to 9 for "Threads of Hope: An Exhibition of the UH Costume Collection Celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness." The exhibition features garments with at least a touch of pink selected from among the collection's 20,000 garments dating from the 1800s to the 1980s. Admission is free.

In addition, the Hawai'i Athletic Club will reveal its two fitness makeover winners, Cathy Lee will help people find their personal home styles, and New Media Productions will present a flashin' forward fashion show with some of the season's hottest styles from Aloha Tower Marketplace merchants.

A FIRST BIRTHDAY BASH IN WAIMANALO

East Honolulu Clothing Co. in Waimanalo is celebrating its first birthday in its new location with a series of weekend events throughout October. Owner Andrea Weymouth-Fujie has stocked her boutique with an eclectic collection of clothing, accessories and treats for pets of all kinds, and pets are always welcome here. In fact, they will be greeted by canine Coco Chanel with a sniff at the door.

This weekend the store will host a "People and Pets" day. Each pet will be given a complimentary bandana. There will also be animal communicators to discuss wellness issues and photographers Maurice Fujie and Marc Yoakum will be on hand to create personalized gifts and portraits of pets.
