19 being sworn in today as state deputy sheriffs

Sixteen men and three women will be sworn in today as deputy sheriffs at the state Department of Public Safety's 15th law enforcement recruit class graduation at the Hawaii Okinawa Center in Waipi'o.

The one-hour ceremony starts at 11 a.m.

The recruits completed 25 weeks of training that included firearms, penal code, chemical agents, drug identification, emergency vehicle operation, traffic enforcement, defensive tactics, CPR/first aid, weapons of mass destruction and terrorism.
