KOLOA
Snorkeler in distress who died is identified

County officials have identified a visitor who died Wednesday after being helped out of the ocean off the Lawai Beach Resort as James Dunkelberger, 73, of York, Penn.

An autopsy will be performed to determine cause of death.

According to police, York was snorkeling at about 9:30 a.m. when a surfer saw him in distress and brought him to shore. York then collapsed and a bystander performed CPR until firefighters from the Koloa station arrived.

He was pronounced dead at Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
