HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle has released $305,600 in additional construction funds for improvements to the Pāhala Public and School Library on the Big Island, including the replacement of the roof and upgrades to the library's entry walkway in compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.

One of 13 public libraries on the Big Island, the Pāhala Public and School Library is situated on the Ka'u High and Pāhala Elementary School campus.

"These funds will allow for necessary improvements to be completed and ensure an improved library experience for students and members of the general public," said Governor Lingle. "The continued investment in capital improvement projects is part of our plan to address immediate economic challenges while working to transform our economy for the future."

This allotment supplements previous allotments for design and construction totaling $366,200. The total project cost is estimated to be $671,800.

Design was completed in August 2008. Construction is scheduled to begin in March 2009 and be completed September 2009.
