CFB: Anderson leads Princeton past Columbia

Associated Press

NEW YORK — Brian Anderson passed for three touchdowns and Cart Kelly recovered a key fourth-quarter fumble to help Princeton to a 27-24 victory over Columbia in the Ivy League opener for both teams today.

Anderson's third scoring pass, a 52-yarder to Trey Peacock in the fourth quarter, came after Columbia (0-3) took a 24-21 lead on Jordan Davis's 1-yard run.

Columbia, which lost its eleventh straight game, got rushing touchdowns from Ray Rangel and Davis in the second half after the Tigers (1-2) had gone ahead 21-10 on Anderson's 17-yard pass to Will Thanheiser early in the third quarter.

Kelly recovered a fumble by Mike Stephens after a pass completion at the Tigers 32 to halt the Lions' last drive in the final minute.

Anderson completed 14 of 19 passes for 237 yards for Princeton.

The Lions' Shane Kelly was 19-for-25 for 221 yards, and ran 15 yards for the game's first score.

Anderson passed 5 yards to Jordan Culbreath for the first Tigers touchdown, and Culbreath capped an 83-yard drive with a 3-yard run for the second.

Jon Rocholl's 25-yard field goal for Columbia with 6 seconds in the second quarter left the Tigers with a 14-10 halftime lead.

Connor Louden had his extra point kick after Peacock's fourth-quarter touchdown partially blocked, giving him the first missed point of his career after 56 straight conversions.
