CFB: Last-second TD lifts Cornell over Lehigh, 25-24

Associated Press

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Nathan Ford threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Jesse Baker on the last play of the game to lead Cornell to a 25-24 win over Lehigh today.

Ford, who finished with 438 yards passing, threw two touchdown passes to Baker in the fourth quarter and ran for another score in the first half. Three of Ford's eight completions on the final drive came on fourth down, including the game-winning score as time expired.

Cornell (3-0) needed the late-game heroics from Ford as the two teams traded scores twice in the fourth after what was a defensive struggle for the first three quarters.

Lehigh's J.B. Clark accounted for two scores in the fourth. The quarterback hooked up with Mike Fitzgerald to give the Mountain Hawks (1-3) an 18-13 lead with 11:37 left in the game.

The Big Red responded with a 64-yard scoring drive capped by Ford's 15-yard TD pass to Baker. On the next possession, Clark scored on a 10-yard run for a 24-19 Lehigh lead.

That set up the game-winning drive by Cornell, which had to convert on 4th and 3 twice to keep the drive alive.

Brad Greenway kicked two field goals for Cornell while Jason Leo booted two in the first quarter for Lehigh.

The Mountain Hawks took a 12-10 lead at halftime after Jarard Cribbs scored on an 84-yard punt return on the final play of the first half.

Baker had 10 catches for 141 yards and Zac Canty had 11 for 120 yards for Cornell.

Lehigh lost on the final play of the game for the second straight week. Last week, Princeton kicked a field goal as time ran out for a 10-7 win.
