Associated Press

NEW ORLEANS — Collin Mooney ran for 187 yards and four touchdowns, and Army beat Tulane 44-13 today for its first win of the season.

Army (1-4) had scored just 37 points coming into the game, but forced four turnovers and returned two of them for touchdowns.

The Black Knights also blocked a punt to set up their first touchdown and blocked a field goal when Tulane (2-3) tried to get within a touchdown early in the fourth quarter.

The Green Wave trailed 23-7 at halftime but got within 10 when Kevin Moore threw a 49-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Williams with 7:30 left in the third quarter.

The Black Knights blocked a 47-yard field goal attempt by Ross Thevenot, then drove 70 yards to push the lead to 30-13. Mooney capped the drive with a 35-yard scoring run, and added a 10-yard touchdown with 5:32 left.

Frank Scappaticci intercepted backup quarterback Joe Kemp and ran 35 yards for a touchdown with 2:43 left. Earlier, Scappaticci picked off Moore.

Army blocked a Tulane punt in the first quarter, setting up Mooney's 4-yard touchdown run.

The Green Wave drove inside the Black Knights 10 moments later, but Moore fumbled while trying to pass and Stephen Anderson picked the ball up and ran 81 yards for a touchdown and a 14-0 lead with 5:24 left in the quarter.

Mooney's 2-yard run and a 22-yard field goal by Matthew Campbell increased the Black Knights' lead to 23-0 midway through the second quarter.

Tulane finally scored when Andre Anderson scored from a yard out to cut the lead to 23-7 at the half.
