Golf: Rookie Dustin Johnson wins at Turning Stone; McLachlin tied for 66th

Associated Press

VERONA, N.Y. — Rookie Dustin Johnson has won the Turning Stone Resort Championship, shooting a 3-under 69 today to beat Robert Allenby by one shot.

Honolulu's Parker McLachlin shot a 73 and finished tied for 66th a 5-over 293. He earned $12,420.

Johnson won his first PGA Tour title by sinking an 8-foot birdie putt on the final hole to edge the veteran Australian, who was seeking his fifth victory and first since 2001. Allenby's 12-foot putt for birdie to tie stopped inches short of the hole.

Six players near the top the leaderboard at the start of play Sunday were seeking their first career win. But Tag Ridings, Kyle Thompson, Jeff Overton, Brian Davis, and Jason Day fell short.

Johnson won $1.08 million to jump from 128th on the money list into the top 100.
