Hawai'i visitors and residents face ever-increasing airfares, but resort specials may make an island vacation affordable:

CASTLE RESORTS & HOTELS offers fall discounts at many of its properties, including Waikiki's Maile Sky Court, where a city-view room can be had for $38 per night plus tax, valid until Dec. 21. 800-367-5004; www.castleresorts.com.

GRAND WAILEA RESORT HOTEL & SPA offers a free fourth night for every three consecutive nights booked, valid through Nov. 20 and Nov. 29-Dec. 18. Room rates start at $375 per night, plus tax, tips and resort charge. 800-888-6100; www.grandwailea.com.

HOTEL HANA MAUI AND HONUA SPA. Hana Fall Special Getaway and the Explore Hana specials offer savings across all room categories.

  • The Hana Fall Special Getaway rates for Sea Ranch Cottages start at $495 per night (a savings of $155 per night), plus a $150 room credit each day of a couples' stay. The Bay Cottage Jr. Suite is $395 per night (a savings of $100), plus a $100 credit per day. Resort credits may be used for the resort restaurants, the Honua Spa, horseback riding tours along the coast, and at the hotel gift shop.

  • The Explore Hana special offers guests booking three nights a fourth night free available in all room categories plus a daily resort credit of $100 or $150 per day. Rates for the Sea Ranch Cottages start at $488 per night to $844 for the one-bedroom oceanfront suite with hot tub.

    Guests receive a fresh flower lei and tropical fruit drink upon arrival, as well as a welcome fruit and snack basket in each room; activities include two pools and whirlpools, daily yoga, body-boards, access to the Honua Spa, tennis and hiking, and on-site parking.

Package rates are $130 per room per night for a partial oceanview room, $140 for an oceanview room, and $150 for a deluxe oceanview. The package represents a savings of more than $1,200 for two who travel this year and next. Rates start at $215 per night, plus tax, based on double occupancy.
