GOING VEGAS
Elvis resort leaves the building

By Anthony Curtis

An Elvis Presley-themed resort proposed for the south Strip appears to be the latest victim of the bad economy. Intended to be built in the spot where the Harley-Davidson Cafe stands, its developers say that it's "unlikely" to be undertaken now. Surviving for now, however, is the Elvis-themed Cirque du Soleil production show earmarked for the CityCenter resort project.

UNLIKELY STRIKE: Lucky Strike Lanes at the Rio has closed. Open since spring 2007, the combination restaurant/bar/nightclub/ bowling alley is the latest casualty of the space near the back of the casino that has seen several clubs come and go over the years.

SHOCKER: The vaunted Sunday Champagne Brunch at the Steakhouse at Circus Circus has been discontinued. It has consistently been one of the best and most popular brunches in Las Vegas for several years.

GREEN BURGER: The newest dining spot at Red Rock Resort is LBS: A Burger Joint. It features a menu of eco-friendly dishes that use fresh, organic, hormone-free, artisanal ingredients and recycled biodegradable packaging. No, it's good, really.

ANGEL DEBUTS: Preview shows for Criss Angel Believe at Luxor began last week with tickets priced at $49 to $124. Following a month of these "preview shows," prices will rise to $65 to $165. Reviews to date peg the show as "needing a little work."

Q. I can't believe the stock market went down exactly 777 points last Monday. What are the odds of that?

A. If it had to fall somewhere between 701 and 800, then the odds of 777 were 100 to 1. But you're right that it was eerily ironic, given the positive connotation of that number, especially for gamblers. Purists can take solace in the fact that the actual decline was 777.68, which is 778 rounded up.
