Boy's mother in dog attack had been investigated by state

Advertiser Staff

The mother of the 2-month-old boy killed by a dog in Wai'anae on Sunday had been investigated by the state Department of Human Services in an unrelated case, DHS spokesman Alan Eyerly said today.

"The mother did have prior involvement with DHS," Eyerly said. "But it was at a different location and had nothing to do with the dog attack. It was not related at all."

Eyerly said he could not immediately describe the previous investigation or whether it involved the boy who was killed on Sunday.

DHS officials are also investigating what happened to 2-month-old Iokepa Liptak on Sunday.

"We are definitely investigating," Eyerly said. "Under law, we have to investigate situations like this to determine if child neglect or a lack of supervision was involved."
