A memorial ceremony is planned for 10:30 a.m. Nov. 8 at Church of the Crossroads in Honolulu for community activist Bill Woods, who died Sept. 27 following a long illness.

Pupu will follow on the church lanai after the service.

Organizers suggest that instead of flowers, donations be made to a civil rights organization of the donor's choice.

Woods, 58, organized Hawai'i's first gay pride parade in 1989 and was the first chairman of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender caucus of the Democratic Party of Hawai'i. He also served as chairman of the Kalihi Valley Neighborhood Board.
