Advertiser Staff

Organizers with the Hawaii International Film Festival, which opens its 28th annual festival Thursday evening, announced today that its "American Immigrant Filmmakers on Profile" showcase will travel to New York City after the festival.

The showcase comprises six films that feature seven foreign-born filmmakers and actors: Sherwood Hu (China), Sarab Neelam (India), Omid Abtahi (Iran), Kai Duc Luong (Cambodia/France), Christine Choy (Hong Kong), Stephane Gauger (Vietnam) and Sielu Avea (Samoa).

The films will screen at New York City's Vilcek Foundation headquarters. The Vilcek Foundation, which was founded by Czechoslovakian immigrants Jan and Maria Vilcek to honor foreign-born scholars and artists living in the United States, is a HIFF sponsor.

The "American Immigrant Filmmakers on Profile" showcase is part of the HIFF program. The festival closes Sunday, Oct. 19.
