Rainbow Wahine move up to No. 6 in volleyball poll

The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team moved up a spot to No. 6 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 Poll released yesterday.
The Rainbow Wahine (12-2) did not play this week, but previous No. 4 Southern California and No. 5 UCLA lost this past weekend.
Penn State (16-0) remained at No. 1, receiving all 60 first-place votes. The only other undefeated team in the Top 25, Nebraska (15-0), remained at No. 2, followed by Texas (10-2).
The Rainbow Wahine resume Western Athletic Conference play this week as they host Louisiana Tech Friday and New Mexico State Sunday.

3 RAINBOW WARRIORS ADVANCE IN QUALIFYING
The University of Hawai'i's Sascha Heinemann, Andreas Weber and Dennis Lajola advanced to the second round of qualifying in the D'Novo Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Championships yesterday at Tulsa, Okla.
Heinemann, a senior, defeated Christian Hansen of Tennessee in the opening round, 6-2, 6-4. Weber, a junior, eliminated Daniel Buikema of Alabama, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Lajola, a sophomore, ousted Chris Nott of Arkansas, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.
Each player must win two more matches to reach the 64-player main draw.

UH TRAINER GOO TO OFFER KINESIO TAPING SEMINAR
For those curious about the brightly colored tape in various patterns all over athletes' bodies — including at the Beijing Olympics — instructor Jayson Goo is holding a seminar on kinesio taping.
Goo, a certified kinesio taping instructor and University of Hawai'i certified athletic trainer, will explain how it works and teach basic taping applications.
He uses Kinesio Tex tape, which is described as a mechanical tape with no chemicals or medication and is supposed to relieve pain and enhance existing treatment modalities.
The fee is $60 for one roll of Kinesio Tex tape and notes. The class is Oct. 18 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Arena Classroom. Registration is required. For more information, contact Jonathan Sugai of Shiatsu Therapists of Hawaii at 533-4171 or jsugai@shiatsuhawaii.com.
