Makakilo man surrenders unharmed after standoff

Advertiser Staff

A tense situation that began about 9:30 last night on Panana Street in Makakilo ended peacefully early this morning when police arrested a 51-year-old man on suspicion of abuse of a family or household member.

Police were called to the home after what was described as a domestic dispute. Police said the man's wife was able to leave the home but her husband remained inside and refused to come out.

Specialized Services Division or SWAT team members were called to the scene during what turned out to be a five-hour standoff with police.

At one point, officers reported hearing what sounded like a weapon being "racked" or being made ready to fire inside the home.

The man was eventually persuaded to come out of the home without incident about 2 a.m., police said.
