Couple runs, promotes goodwill in Ichinoseki

Mike and Sandra Ferreira of Kane'ohe finished in the top 10 in their respective age groups at the Ichinoseki (Japan) Half Marathon.

The event was held Sept. 28.

The pair also presented a letter from Mayor Mufi Hannemann and Lt. Gov. James "Duke" Aiona to the mayor of Ichinoseki.

More than 1,500 competitors took part in a 5-kilometer, 10k and a half-marathon.

Mike Ferreira finished seventh in the 40-44 age-group division in 1:22:37.

Sandra Ferreira finished sixth in the 30-39 age group in 1:28:30.

Both are scheduled to compete in tomorrow's Ironman in Kona. Halloween Shootout fishing tourney set

The Halloween Shootout, a fishing tournament on Maui in its seventh year, will be held Oct. 31 at 7 a.m. outside of the Lahaina Harbor break wall. It runs until 4 p.m.

The tournament is in memory of Kenny "Top Shape" Takashima, a revered Lahaina fisherman and charter captain.

The entry fee is $1,000 per fishing vessel. Each person aboard will receive a tournament T-shirt, baseball hat and a colorful program guide. The deadline to enter is Oct. 30 at the Captains Cocktail and Pupu Party at Cool Cat Café.

Last year, O'ahu's Alohalani, with captain Tim Tucker and angler Al Shannon, won with a 665-pound blue marlin.

KOLOA SUGAR MILL RUN SCHEDULED FOR NOV. 1

The sixth annual Old Koloa Sugar Mill Run — a 5K run, 10K run or 10-mile run/walk — will be held Nov. 1.

The 10-mile race starts at 7 a.m. and the 5K and 10K start at 7:30 a.m. at Anne Knudsen Park in Koloa, Kaua'i.
