Golf: Sweden easily wins amateur women's team event

ADELAIDE, Australia — Sweden completed a wire-to-wire win in the Espirito Santo women's amateur team golf tournament today, holding off Spain and the United States.

Sweden led by no fewer than eight shots after all four rounds of the tournament, played over two courses — the par-72 West and par-73 East at The Grange. The Swedes finished with a 19-under total of 561, followed by Spain (573) and the United States (575).

Canada was fourth at 3-over 583, followed a stroke back by Japan.

On Saturday on the West Course, Anna Nordqvist shot a 3-under 69, Caroline Hedwall 70 and Pernilla Lindberg 73 for Sweden. The top two scores in each count toward the country's total.

Hedwall finished at 10-under over four rounds for the best individual total.

The American team, also playing on the West course, was led by Amanda Blumenherst at 4-under 68. Tiffany Joh shot 69 and Alison Walshe 70.

The event is held every two years.
