A 21-year old man who gave another man a ride had his gold chain and cellphone taken from him late last night, police said.

The two men were at a School Street market in Kalihi at 11 p.m. Friday when the second man asked the 21-year-old for a ride first to his home and then changed his mind and asked to be dropped off at a gas station near his home. It is unclear if the two men knew each other.

While driving the man then asked the 21-year-old to use his cellphone and to look at the gold chain the 21 year old was wearing. When the 21 year old asked for his possessions back, the man punched him in the left eye, police said.

The man fled on foot with the gold chain. The 21 year old went back to the market today and recognized the man. He called police who arrested the man, who is 22 years old, without incident for suspicion of robbery in the second degree, police said.
