Man robbed of cell phone and gold chain; suspect arrested

Advertiser Staff

A 21-year-old man who gave another man a ride had his gold chain and cell phone taken from him late last night, police said.

The two men were at a School Street market in Kalihi at 11 p.m. Friday when the second man asked the 21-year-old for a ride to his home, then changed his mind and asked to be dropped off at a gas station near his home. It is unclear if the two men knew each other.

While driving, the passenger then asked the 21-year-old to use his cell phone and to look at the gold chain the 21-year-old was wearing. When the 21-year-old asked for his possessions back, the man punched him in the left eye, police said.

The man fled on foot with the gold chain. The 21-year-old went back to the market yesterday and recognized the man. He called police, who arrested the 22-year-old man without incident for suspicion of robbery in the second degree, police said.
