Weather: Passing showers likely today

A front near Kaua'i will weaken and move slowly westward away from the Islands today, the National Weather Service said.

Showers will occur across much of the state again today, with locally heavy rainfall possible mainly over Kaua'i and O'ahu, forecasters said.

Expect the trade winds to slowly return starting on Wednesday, with a more typical trade wind weather pattern reestablished across the entire island chain by Friday.

Here's a closer look at the middle of the work week:

Today: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. South wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Tonight: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. East wind between 10 and 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Wednesday: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. East wind between 11 and 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Wednesday night: Scattered showers, mainly before midnight. Partly cloudy, with a low around 71. East wind around 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Thursday: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a high near 85. East wind between 13 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Thursday night: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 72. East wind around 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
