Big Isle police seek information on moped crash

The Hawai'i Police Department is looking for witnesses to a moped crash that occurred Sept. 9 in Kailua, Kona.

A 56-year-old Kailua, Kona woman wearing a pink helmet was riding a moped north on Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway around 8 p.m. She was found lying at the white line of the shoulder .1 mile south of Malulani Street with the moped on top of her.

She was taken to Kona Community Hospital and then transferred to a hospital on O'ahu for treatment of her injuries.

Police ask anyone who may have seen the incident to call Officer Ellsworth Fontes at 808-326-4646, ext. 245, or the Police Department's nonemergency line at 808-935-3311. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call CrimeStoppers at 808-961-8300 in Hilo or 808-329-8181 in Kona. All CrimeStoppers information is kept confidential.
