MLB: Victorino's family to postpone grandmother's funeral

The family of Philadelphia Phillies center fielder Shane Victorino has decided to wait until the World Series is over to bury his grandmother, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

Victorino's grandmother, Irene Victorino, died Friday. She was 82. Victorino, a St. Anthony High alum from Maui, had previously stated that he wanted to attend her funeral but would not miss any games.

He set a franchise record with 11 postseason RBIs in the 2008 National League championship series.

The Phillies, which won the NL title and advanced to the World Series with a 4-1 series record against the Los Angeles Dodgers, awaits outcome of the American League championship between Boston and Tampa Bay. The World Series begins Wednesday, Oct. 22.
