CFB: Spiller out, Harper needs surgery

The Associated Press

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Clemson running back C.J. Spiller won't play against Georgia Tech because of a pulled hamstring, while demoted quarterback Cullen Harper says he needs surgery for a fracture in his left shoulder.

Spiller was hurt in the opening half of the Tigers' 12-7 loss at Wake Forest and has been kept out of workouts this week. Team spokesman Tim Bourret said Spiller could be ready by the Tigers' Nov. 1 game at Boston College.

Harper, benched by former coach Tommy Bowden last week, said after practice Thursday he doesn't know when he will have surgery, but that he will be available Saturday.
