Former mayoral candidate Prevedouros arrested

Advertiser Staff

Former mayoral candidate Panos Prevedouros was arrested at 8:10 a.m. today on a contempt of court warrant.

Prevedouros, 47, posted $250 for the misdemeanor contempt warrant , according to police arrest records. No other details were available and Prevedouros did not return phone calls to the Advertiser.

Prevedouros ran unsuccessfully in the September primary for Honolulu mayor coming in third behind Mayor Mufi Hannemann and City Councilwoman Ann Kobayashi.

Following the race, Prevedouros threw his support behind Kobayashi.

A University of Hawai'i engineering professor, Prevedouros rode the momentum created by the anti-rail movement and used his opposition to the project as a platform to paint Kobayashi and Hannemann as career politicians who lacked the technical expertise to efficiently manage core city services such as road and sewer repairs.
