Moped crash witnesses asked to contact police

The police department is looking for witnesses to a Sept. 9 moped crash in Kailua, Kona.

A 56-year-old Kailua woman wearing a pink helmet was riding a moped north on Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway around 8 p.m. She was found lying at the white line of the shoulder about 500 feet south of Malulani Street with the moped on top of her.

She was taken to Kona Community Hospital and then to an O'ahu hospital.

Police ask anyone who may have seen the incident to call Officer Ellsworth Fontes at 808-326-4646, ext. 245, or the police non-emergency line at 808-935-3311.
