Man arrested after police break up Waikiki fight

Advertiser Staff

Police arrested a man in a brawl early this morning that involved nearly a dozen other people in Waikiki after he refused to leave at an officer's request.

The fight on Kuhio Avenue involved 10 to 12 people with nearly 60 others watching, police said. An officer ordered the people to stop fighting and to leave the area, but the fighting continued.

The police officer used his pepper spray on the men fighting. The officer had to use the spray again, but one 23-year-old man turned toward the officer, threatening that he wanted to "murder" him.

The police officer drew his taser and told the man he was under a arrest, but the man tried to walk past the officer and refused to submit to the arrest, police said.

The man nudged the officer as he walked by.

Back up officers arrived and the man was arrested and charged with terroristic threatening in the first degree, harassment and contempt of court of an outstanding traffic warrant. Fotuniufi Pelesikoti, of Waimanalo, posted $750 bail.
