Rookie maintains lead in Las Vegas

Associated Press

LAS VEGAS — Marc Turnesa didn't come close to matching his first two rounds, yet still managed to stay atop the leaderboard for the third straight day in the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.

After opening with rounds of 62 and 64, the PGA Tour rookie shot a 3-under 69 yesterday to take a one-stroke lead over Chris DiMarco (63), Michael Allen (64) and Ken Duke (67). Turnesa had a 21-under 195 total at TPC Summerlin.

"There were some low scores, but none of them were really from the leaders," Turnesa said. "So, I think I'm a bit fortunate."

Matt Kuchar was tied for the lead with Turnesa with a hole to play, but closed with a double bogey for a 71. He was two strokes back at 19 under along with Zach Johnson (70) and Chris Stroud (67).

Hawai'i's Parker McLachlin, a Punahou alum, shot a 67 and was tied for 27th at 203, while Castle High alum Dean Wilson was tied for 35th after a 72 for 204.

CHAMPIONS TOUR

THREE SHARE LEAD

THE WOODLANDS, Texas — Defending champion Bernhard Langer shot a 5-under 67 yesterday for a share of the second-round lead in the Administaff Small Business Classic, the Champions Tour's final full-field event of the season.

Langer, Lonnie Nielsen (68) and Brad Bryant (68) had 9-under 135 totals on The Woodlands Country Club course. Denis Watson (66) was a stroke back.

EUROPEAN PGA TOUR

STORM STOPS PLAY

VILAMOURA, Portugal — Sweden's Robert Karlsson moved into contention for his third straight European tour title, playing 16 holes in 6 under for a share of the lead in the suspended third round of the Portugal Masters.

Karlsson, the Order of Merit leader, England's Ross Fisher and Spain's Alvaro Quiros were 14 under when play was suspended because of an electrical storm at Oceanico Victoria Golf Club. They were among 12 players who were unable to complete the round.

Fisher also played 16 holes, and Quiros completed 13.

Denmark's Soren Hanse was the clubhouse leader at 13-under 203 after a 65.
