Eric Neuhart, Conrad Fernandez and Steven Lee, who began their Maui Fire Department careers in the same recruit training class 15 years ago, were promoted earlier this month to rank of captain.

Neuhart will command Ladder Co. 14 in Wailea while Fernandez has been assigned health and safety administrative duties with the Hazardous Materials Division, and Lee the First Watch at Napili Fire Station.

"Each individual worked at multiple stations in many different capacities, which helped them become well-rounded in the department," said Maui Fire Chief Jeffrey Murray.
