Shark sighting reported at Kalama Beach in Kailua

Advertiser Staff

The city posted warning signs after a shark sighting near Kalama Beach Park in Kailua was confirmed by a city lifeguard this afternoon.

Signs were up about 1:40 p.m. but were removed at 5:30 p.m. after lifeguards assessed the situation with no further shark sightings reported, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Department of Emergency Services.

Lifeguards will be advising people entering the water tomorrow of today's sightings, Cheplic added.
