HALAWA
'Aiea woman, 72, dies after car hits rock wall

A 72-year-old 'Aiea woman died Sunday night at The Queen's Medical Center, about three hours after being injured in a single-car crash in Halawa.

The Honolulu medical examiner's office identified the woman as Hideko Masaki.

Police vehicular homicide supervising Sgt. Andrew Berky said the crash happened about 6 p.m. at Ulune and Pu'ala'a streets.

Masaki was driving a 2008 Toyota sedan on Ulune and making a right turn onto Pu'ala'a when the car hit a rock wall, police said.

Masaki was taken in serious condition to the hospital, where she died at 9 p.m.

The death was O'ahu's 36th traffic fatality of the year.
