TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Independent Lens: Chicago 10," 9 p.m., PBS. Maybe there was no straight-ahead way to portray the 1968 Democratic convention protests and the "Chicago 10" trial that followed. It was a time of chaos, joy, hatred, laughter, tear gas and billyclubs. The chaos became a strategy — protest as street theater. And the trial that followed added to that story. Filmmaker Brett Morgan uses an odd mix of old news film and new cartoons with voice actors. He does it skillfully, reminding us what an odd, hectic, fascinating time it was.

"Stylista" debut, 8 p.m., CW (Oceanic Digital Channel 93). Anne Slowey, an Elle editor, will pick one person to be a junior editor. "Stylista" works because it has an intriguing batch of 11 contestants. Some arrive dressed with flair; a young man is chastised for his bowler hat, a young woman for her cleavage.

OF NOTE

Baseball, 2 p.m., Fox. It's the start of the World Series — the first ever for the Tampa Bay Rays. Today, they host the Philadelphia Phillies.

"Vanguard" season opener, 4 and 7 p.m., Current (Oceanic Digital Channel 900). There's a benefit to personal, individual journalism, this series reminds us. In the weeks ahead, the subjects will range from robots in Japan to young Americans in debt. For this opener, Mariana van Zeller travels into the Iraqi mountains; she talks to female guerrillas who discuss raids into Iran. It's an involving hour that also raises questions about whether the U.S. is supporting the attacks financially.

"Pushing Daisies," 7 p.m., ABC. David Arquette plays a prime suspect — a socially clumsy guy who roomed with the popular murder victim.

"Sons of Anarchy," 7 p.m., FX. Two familiar guest stars have a fierce effect on tonight's story. Mitch Pileggi (Skinner in "The X-Files") stirs up the war between motorcycle gangs; Jay Karnes (Dutch in "The Shield") continues his obsession with Tara. Both lead to tense, explosive situations,

"High School Musical" (2006), 8 p.m., Disney Channel. This bouncy, buoyant movie reruns tonight, with its sequel on tomorrow. The third one reaches theaters Friday.
