Moped driver killed in accident

A 22-year-old man died yesterday following an early-morning moped crash at the intersection of Dole and Frank streets near the University of Hawai'i- Manoa campus.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner's office identified the moped operator as Rendell Okimoto-Allen.

The crash happened at 3:29 a.m. Okimoto-Allen was pronounced dead at The Queen's Medical Center at 5:29 a.m.

Police Sgt. Andrew Berky said speed may have been a factor in O'ahu's third moped fatality of the year and the second this month. DeWayne McKinney was killed in an early-morning moped crash Oct. 7 at Wai'alae and 14th avenues.



MAN DIES AFTER FALLING FROM TRUCK

A 61-year-old man who was critically injured Sept. 29 when he fell from the bed of a moving pickup truck died Thursday at The Queen's Medical Center, police said.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner's office identified the victim as Jose Mendoza.

The accident took place at Likini Street and Likini Place in Aliamanu as furniture was being moved in a rented pickup truck, police said.



REMAINS FOUND IN KALIHI IDENTIFIED

Skeletal remains discovered Aug. 1 in Kalihi were of a 79-year-old woman reported missing in January, according to the Honolulu Medical Examiner's office and the military's Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command at Hickam Air Force Base.

The remains of Anicia Manzano were found in a ravine behind the Hauiki Homes housing project on Meyers Street.

No foul play is suspected in Manzano's death. She was reported missing Jan. 3.



SEARCH CONTINUES FOR KAYAKER

The Coast Guard will continue its search today for a kayaker last seen Saturday near Kapa'a Beach Park in the North Kohala District of the Big Island.

Searchers aboard Coast Guard and Navy aircraft and aboard a Coast Guard cutter searched more than 12,000 square miles — an area about three times the size of the Big Island — by sunset last night.

The Coast Guard was notified early Sunday morning by the Hawai'i County Fire Department that Miguel Serussino, 26, had not returned to shore from a paddling excursion with relatives Saturday.

The Coast Guard asks anyone with information on Serussino or sightings of a yellow kayak or paddle in the area of Kapa'a Beach near Kawaihae to call 808-842-2600.



STABBING SUSPECT TO APPEAR IN COURT

Authorities yesterday charged a 30-year-old man with attempted second-degree murder in the stabbing of a man early Monday in Wahiawa.

Tahoma James Ramage, who lives on Meigs Avenue at Schofield Barracks, was being held in lieu on $30,000 bail. He has an initial appearance scheduled for today at District Court.

Ramage was arrested at Kamehameha Highway and Olive Avenue at 12:36 a.m. Monday. The stabbing victim, an 18-year-old man, was taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said.



TWO MEN CHARGED IN WAI'ANAE BEATING

Prosecutors yesterday charged two Wai'anae men with first-degree assault in connection with a beating early Saturday that left a 29-year-old man in critical condition.

Curtis Rivera, 23, and Jordan Ashley Simmons, 21, also known as Jordan Simpio, were being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.

They are accused of punching and kicking a man in the parking lot of the Waimaha Apartments, 85-186 McArthur St. in Wai'anae, about 6:30 a.m. Saturday.
