Minor injury from North Shore construction accident

Advertiser Staff

The Honolulu Fire Department responded at around 3 p.m. today to a report of a "confined-space rescue" and a collapsed structure on Ikuwai Place on the North Shore near Chun's Reef.

At first it was thought that firefighters would need to free a trapped person.

However, HFD spokesman Terry Seelig said that wasn't necessary after firefighters reached the scene.

"The initial report was there was a person that had been trapped by some collapse during a building construction project of a residential nature," said Seelig. "But before we even got there he was freed — how, I don't know. But we assessed that no other companies were needed."

Emergency Rescue Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic said EMS responded and that a man in his 60s sustained "very minor" injuries.

"The man was stable and taken to a local area hospital," said Cheplic.
