Victorino, Yates, Ka'aihue headlining baseball clinic

Shane Victorino, the center fielder for the National League champion Philadelphia Phillies headlines the Third Annual West Oahu Baseball Clinic.

The St. Anthony High alum will join Tyler Yates (Kaua'i High, with the Pittsburgh Pirates) and Kila Ka'aihue ('Iolani, with the Kansas City Royals) and other players at clinics Dec. 10, 13 and 14.

The Dec. 10 clinic will be at the Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., and is for ages 8 to 18.

The clinics on Dec. 13 and 14 will be at Vidinha Baseball Stadium on Kaua'i. Participants ages 8 to 12 will go from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and ages 13 to 18 will be from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The cost is $55 per person for the O'ahu clinic and $70 for Kaua'i.

Wade Yamasaki, the trainer for the San Diego Padres, will coordinate the clinic, which will cover many facets of the game, and include autograph sessions and the chance to receive baseball memorabilia.

Other players scheduled to appear are: Jeff Bailey (Boston), Justin Germano (San Diego), Colt Morton (San Diego), Drew Macias (San Diego) and Shawn Wooten (San Diego). More players are expected to be added.

NOKES TO HOLD CLINIC

Former major league catcher Matt Nokes will hold a hitting clinic Nov. 14 and 15.

The clinic, sponsored by the Champion Edge Foundation, is called "The Art of ... Hitting Your Way — Timing & Visual Performance."

A seminar will be held the first day from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Kahala Elementary Field.

Participants will hit on the second day at Kapaolono Park in Kaimuki. They will be divided into two groups: 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. (for ages 9-11) and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. (for ages 12-18).

Nokes played 10 seasons in the majors for San Francisco, Detroit, New York Yankees, Baltimore and Colorado.

The fee is $50 for CEF members (both days) and $150 for non-members.

CEF membership is $25 a year.

EVENT AT KAPI'OLANI

The 18th Annual Hawai'i Lacrosse Invitational Tournament will be held today through Sunday at Kapi'olani Park.

Today at 4 p.m., there is a free youth lacrosse clinic with equipment giveaways at Kapi'olani Park, diamondhead side. Matches begin tomorrow and Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
