NFL: Jets' Coles, Smith active vs. Chiefs

Associated Press

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Jets wide receiver Laveranues Coles and safety Eric Smith were active for New York's game against Kansas City on Sunday despite suffering concussions last weekend.

Coles and Smith, both injured in the Jets' 16-13 overtime loss at Oakland, fully participated in practice for the first time this week on Friday and were listed on the team's injury report as probable.

Wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery was also active after being questionable because of a shoulder injury that limited him in practice throughout the week.

Inactive for the Jets were tight end Bubba Franks, cornerback David Barrett, wide receiver David Clowney, linebacker Marques Murrell, defensive lineman Kareem Brown, kicker Mike Nugent and quarterback Erik Ainge. Brett Ratliff was listed as the Jets' No. 3 quarterback.

As expected, Kansas City running back Larry Johnson was inactive for the second straight week as punishment for violating team rules. Police and the NFL are investigating a report the two-time Pro Bowl running back spat several times on woman at a Kansas City nightclub.

The Chiefs were also without punter Dustin Colquitt, who's nursing a groin injury. He was replaced by Steve Weatherford, signed earlier this week.

Also inactive for the Chiefs were wide receiver Jeff Webb, linebacker Erik Walden, offensive tackle Barry Richardson, defensive tackle T.J. Jackson and guard Brian De La Puenta.

Quinn Gray was the team's No. 3 quarterback, behind starter Tyler Thigpen and backup Ingle Martin after Brodie Croyle and Damon Huard were placed on injured reserve earlier in the week.
