Waikele armed robbery suspects arrested

Advertiser Staff

Police today arrested a 20-year-old man and 17-year-old boy as suspects in an armed robbery reported at a Waikele area recycling center in which shots were fired.

The suspects were arrested at Hiapo and Mahoe streets at 10 a.m., 26 minutes after the robbery was reported. A gun was recovered, according to police. No money was taken.

The adult was booked for a firearm offense, first-degree robbery, first-degree terroristic threatening and first-degree reckless endangering.

Police said the two suspects entered the facility dressed in black and wearing Halloween masks. The adult was allegedly carrying a gun. The suspects confronted employees and demanded money.

One of the employees threw a trash can at the juvenile suspect, knocking off his mak. Another employee ran into the back room and the gunman allegedly fired a shot in the direction of the room.

The two suspects fled without money but were located by police patrol officers and arrested without incident.
