Suspect in police attack in hospital

Advertiser Staff

A 27-year-old man whom police say drove a car at an officer has been released pending recovery from injuries allegedly suffered while fleeing from officers.

Police arrested the man at 10:30 p.m. Friday at 98-0175 Kaonohi St. in Waimalu. He was booked on counts of attempted murder, forgery and resisting arrest.

He was then taken to a hospital for treatment of an undisclosed injury. Police have a guard posted and plan to re-arrest him after his release from the hospital.

Police said that on Tuesday night the man drove his vehicle toward an officer investigating a report of a forgery in progress on Kahakai Drive near Ala Moana Center. The man abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot. He is believed to have injured himself while scaling a fence.

The officer was treated for minor injuries.
