Big Island firefighters said a man's body was found floating just offshore early this morning near "Ladders," a cliff area on South Point, in an apparent drowning.

A bystander told fire department officials that the victim was fishing along the cliff when he fell into the water. Upon arrival of medical personnel, the victim was found floating in the water.

The fire department got its first call at 12:31 a.m. and was on the scene at 1:05 a.m.
