Father, 3 sons rescued on Big Island hunting trip

Advertiser Staff

A father and his three sons were rescued this morning by the Big Island Fire Department's Rescue 1 helicopter crew after they were reported overdue from a hunting trip.

The family was supposed to return from its trip at 4 p.m. yesterday. None had cell phones, according to fire department officials.

The rescue team was called to the search at 9:50 last night.

Helicopter personnel spotted the family at 7:43 this morning about 2.5 miles in on Flume Road. A rescue team, using a net, then lifted them to safety.

None of the missing hunters required medical treatment.
