The rain that pelted parts of O'ahu yesterday should clear out by this morning, leaving only isolated showers and a slight southwest wind, according to the National Weather Service.

Almost 2 inches fell over the Pali yesterday, with even dry Wai'anae Valley receiving less than a half an inch of rain over the past 24 hours.

"I know the farmers are glad about the rain," said Sam Houston, a National Weather Service forecaster. "The rain was mainly on O'ahu — that was a surprise this morning."

No problems were reported from the rain, Houston said.

"It was just a good, solid soaking rain, a beneficial rain unless you had some outdoor activities planned."

Forecasters had predicted the rain would clear out on Saturday, leaving yesterday a typical isolated shower day, Houston said. But the weak low pressure system hung around over the Kaua'i channel, he said.

Today should be "garden variety" Hawai'i weather, with isolated showers, partly cloudy, and a high near 84 degrees. The chance of rain is 20 percent, according to the Weather Service.
