Officials today will open Ala Kalanikaumaka, Kaua'i's new 1.5-mile, two-lane western bypass road.

The bypass from Koloa Road to the roundabout located at the junction of Po'ipu and Lawa'i roads was built by Kukui'ula Development Company (Hawai'i) LLC, as a requirement for the company's development project in Po'ipu. Ala Kalanikaumaka is designated to become part of the county's road system.

A blessing ceremony will be held today. Motorists are advised to allow additional time for slow-moving equipment and construction vehicles while driving through the area.
