Tennis: Nalbandian through to third round at Paris Masters

Associated Press

PARIS — Defending champion David Nalbandian beat Nicolas Kiefer of Germany 7-6 (5), 6-3 on Wednesday to reach the third round of the Paris Masters.

Kiefer saved two match points before the eighth-seeded Nalbandian served out the match with an ace to move into a third matchup this month against Juan Martin Del Potro. Nalbandian beat Del Potro in the semifinals of the Swiss Indoors last week after losing to him in the third round of the Madrid Masters the week before.

Marin Cilic of Croatia also advanced with a 6-4, 7-6 (2) win over Marcel Granollers.
