Parks work slated in Kahului, Kihei

Advertiser Staff

The basketball courts at Kahului School will be closed for repairs and resurfacing beginning Monday for approximately four weeks, the Maui County Department of Parks and Recreation said.

The contractor selected for the $20,488 project is All Island Surfacing.

In Kihei, the Kenolio Recreation Center's Building "D" is scheduled to be closed starting Wednesday for major renovations. Estimated completion date is Feb. 27, 2009.

The work includes demolition of exterior and interior walls; construction of concrete block walls; installation of new windows and doors within the same footprint; and interior finish work.

The $505,555 contract was awarded to Arisumi Brothers Inc.

The building has not been in use due to its poor condition. After the renovation is complete, it will be used mainly for county parks programs, including community classes and as a PALS (Play and Learn Sessions) site.
