Firefighters are attempting to locate four stranded female hikers in Pupukea.

Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Terry Seelig said the hikers are on a trail above the Aloha Council Boys Scouts of America camp and that one of them has a possible ankle injury. Fire rescue personnel and the department helicopter were dispatched at 7:03 p.m.

The women, who are visitors from the mainland, are in contact with HFD by cellphone and have a flash camera to use as a signal to the helicopter, Seelig said. HFD is also utilizing GPS navigational equipment to locate the hikers.
