Weather: Trades should persist a few days more

Moderate to locally fresh trade winds will persist for the next couple of days, the National Weather Service said.

Showers will favor windward and mauka areas, with an increase in rainfall expected tomorrow afternoon and evening as the remnants of a shear line move across the state, according to the forecast.

Moderate trade winds will ease and shift out of the east-southeast early next week as a front approaches the islands.

Here's a closer look at what to expect as the weekend approaches:

Today: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. East wind between 14 and 17 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Tonight: Scattered showers, mainly before midnight. Partly cloudy, with a low around 70. East wind around 16 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Friday: Isolated showers after noon. Partly cloudy, with a high near 83. East wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Friday Night: Isolated showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. East wind between 11 and 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Saturday: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a high near 84. East wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Saturday Night: Scattered showers, mainly before midnight. Partly cloudy, with a low around 71. East wind between 11 and 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
