KOLOA
Kauai man 13th killed in deadliest driving month

A Kalaheo man killed Wednesday night in a two-car collision in Koloa was Kaua'i's 11th traffic fatality of the year and the 13th person to die this month on Hawai'i's roadways.

October has been the deadliest driving month this year; the total surpasses the 11 deaths recorded in June.

Kaua'i police said Rogelio Cesario, 23, was west-bound in a Toyota sedan on Koloa Road near mile marker 3 when his car crossed the centerline and struck a Toyota pickup driven by a 22-year-old Koloa man.

Cesario died at the scene, police said. The pickup driver was taken to Wilcox Hospital and later transferred to The Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu.

There were no passengers in either vehicle. Speed appears to be a contributing factor, police said.
